Anyone know what these plants are please
Anyone know what these plants are please
Are these safe to feed my horsfield tortoise please?
Re: Anyone know what these plants are please
Hi Jo,
It's a bit hard to say. Your first photo (the tall plant growing in the ground) is something that has bindweed growing up it (the vine that is twisted round the stem). It looks like it might be a young tree seedling of some sort, but I'm just not sure. Hopefully Lin will come on and she might know.
The second photo. It's very difficult to ID a plant from a small bit of it that has been picked, as it's much better to have a photo of the whole plant growing in situ, so that we can see the way it comes up out of the ground, the way the leaves come off the stem etc. It looks familiar, but again I'm not sure and hopefully Lin will know.
The third photo (the blurry one) looks to be one of the Willowherbs, and we have two entries for different types:
https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/pla ... xjkzSAh2M8
and this https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/pla ... xjlBiAh2M8
Does yours resemble either of these?
Nina

Re: Anyone know what these plants are please
Hi Jo.
Your first plant with the vine growing around it is Wild Lettuce. Here is our entry for it but you can also ass that name to the database search and it will pop up.

The next one down, the one Nina has asked for another photo. I agree we do need photos in situ to be able to see size and growth habit. If you could send one in it would help immensley. There actually looks like two plants there
And I agree with the Willowherb in the last photo.

Hi Jo.
Your first plant with the long thinner leaves is a Willowherb and you can see here it will be fine in moderation -- https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/pla ... nt=360&c=6
The other photo with the showter pointy leaves is Buttercup and its not a feed for tortoises --

Re: Anyone know what these plants are please
Many thanks Lin. I have planted some seeds in topsoil so hopefully they will grow soon.
