Shell rot in Sulcata tortoises
Shell rot in Sulcata tortoises
I have only raised Sulcata for a short time, about 6 months, but I recently discovered a strange phenomenon. The turtle's shell shows signs of rot and peeling. What is this disease and what is the cure? I don't have much experience in this.
Re: Shell rot in Sulcata tortoises
Hi Mark,
It's really difficult to say what the problem is without seeing a photo, so could you send us a photo of the affected area? It needs to be reduced in size to work, and if you have problems uploading it then just send it to me at nina@thetortoisetable.org.uk and I will post it for you.
Can you tell us how old your tortoise is, what sort of enclosure he has and what the temperature is under his heat/light lamp?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Nina

Re: Shell rot in Sulcata tortoises
Hi Mark
Is there and pink tissue or softness in the damages area of shell?
As Nina has requested a photo will be better for a definite identification of what’s going on.
