Wind down update

Post by Emma25 » 22 Nov 2023, 14:40

Hello,

Just a little update, we are now in week 2 of wind down. Penny is so sleepy now, we are putting her under the lamp at about 8.30 on a morning and she sleeps for a few hours and is then going to bed about 2 to 2.30, she seems to be leading the way and letting us know what she wants to do.

We are bathing her daily and she even falls asleep when we do that. We have seen her drinking water too over the last couple of days.

I've attached a picture of her getting dried off after her bath, she does seem much more settled overall than she did last year and hopefully that is a good sign.....thanks, Emma

Hi Emma,

How cute is that photo! :D It sounds like Penny is doing really well and is going to have a very successful hibernation.

Accidental hibernation 3 days in.

Post by Danielkag » 13 Feb 2024, 14:51

What are the potential risks and consequences of a tortoise accidentally entering hibernation for a short period of time, and how should it be managed to ensure its well-being?

Hi Daniel,

I answered your question on your other post, so maybe check that one here http://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/site ... =12&t=2825 . When you're writing a post, there is a box underneath the box you are writing in that says 'Notify me when a reply is posted' and if you tick that box then when someone responds to your post you will be sent an email about it.

If the tortoise has only been in hibernation for a very short time you can easily wake him up and warm him up sufficiently so that he is eating again, etc., and he will be fine. If you send us a photo of his set-up we can perhaps suggest ways to make it good for him to be awake at this time of year.
