Balcony enclosure almost done
Hello :P So my balcony enclosure for Timmy is almost done. It's missing the uv plexiglass roof for the right back corner, but that will be delivered next week. It will be the greenhouse. And also the weeds, plants need to grow in the pots, but things are coming up :) I also have to place the hooks f...

Hi Nina,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes you are right, I'll leave it as it is so he can have a choice!

Lamp timer settings
Hello again :) I have a question about the timers of my lamps. The lamps of Timmies enclosure are on for 12 hours. I have timers and they go on at 7 am and off at 7 pm. Recently Timmie has chainged his times and goes to bed around 4 pm. I think he is more settled and relaxed now and that's why it is...

Re: 1 month aniversary and questions
Hi Nina, No it's all concrete here ha ha and the table is actually built on the breakfastbar, it devides the kitchen and livingroom. It's very strong and a nice spot for him. It's quiet but not too quiet so he can see me when I'm in the kitchen. He likes that😊 The table is 2,5 ft by 6,7 ft so alot o...

Re: 1 month aniversary and questions
Hi Nina,
No it's not wet at all, it's only 2 or 3 glasses of water on 80 liters of cococoir and 5 kilo of sand mix, so that's nothing. Just enough to keep it together.

Re: 1 month aniversary and questions
Hi Nina, I think I'll do the same with taking everything out. I mean, I spot clean the way you do and I can't imagine it getting dirty this way especially when he will be outside for months too. We've had excellent summers where I live and if this summer will be the same, he can be outside for 6 mon...

Re: 1 month aniversary and questions
Hi Nina, All his lamps are on timers and some lamps in my livingroom too. But it was rainy and nasty that week too. Maybe it was a bit of both, stimulation and weather. He is a superfriendly little dude, I hope he stays that way! I know the males will stay smaller, but I hope he grows a bit and his ...

1 month aniversary and questions
So little Timmie has been with me for little over a month now. I have to say I think it's really easy, maybe because I've prepared well and my guineapig and hamster experience. I feel the way I have to take care of him and his behaviour is a combination of the 2. Keeping is table up is easy to spot ...

Re: Being tough on fussy Tim
Hi Nina, Well today I found a really good source of plantain and dandelionleaves :D so today he ate that and 3 superthin slices of cucumber with alpin inside. I forgot about kale, endive and leaves of raddish, but he also eats those. Maybe I shouldn't focus as much on the alpin. It would be great if...

Being tough on fussy Tim
So little Tim is doing really well in his new enclosure, he really likes the space and the walking and climbing he can do. He is also very friendly, I can touch him and when I put my hand flat he will come and sit on it or sit on it with the front half of his body. He's a great little dude. But he i...

Re: New owner rescue horsfield
Yes he's a real tiny Tim, but a little bulldozer too😊 everything is going to be fine from now on, I just can't imagine how he suffered for 3 years in 12 by 12 inch enclosure, glas, no water because he didn't need it.... and a heatlamp without uv, nowhere to go and hide, how horrible! You are totally...

Re: New owner rescue horsfield
Oh he's so happy with his new home. In the other one he was frustrated, he had seen his own reflection and was convinced there were other tortoises and did not like it. Even though I put cardboard against the walls, he knew they were behind the cardboard😉 now he's so much more relaxed and exploring ...

Re: New owner rescue horsfield
Thank so much, I have to say that this is a very positive and informative forum. I've seen different! I have a sunscreen on my balcony that I can put down in many different ways. So there will be shade always! My table is ready. He loves it and is exploring everywhere. I made sure the sides are clea...

Re: New owner rescue horsfield
Ah that is so nice. My table will be ready this week. It will be 6 ft 10 inches by 2 ft 7.5 inches. Just Imagine he's never had so much space in his life, poor thing. He looks pretty good considering the horrible care he has had. Maybe I'm a little overprotecting with the substrate on him ha ha. But...

Hi Nina, I didn't see yours because I was already typing the other whilst you send yours. Thank you so much for your reply! Merlin is cute too ha ha. Re: New owner rescue horsfield
Hi Lin, Thank you so much for the reply. I'm trying a bit of alpin with cucumber right now, so far no luck. He did want a small piece of cucumber out of my hand though. So maybe he'll try later. I have to say I do find it hard not to feed him ha ha, but I think I should do it. He is very picky. He's...

New owner rescue horsfield
Hello, My name is Kimberley and I'm from the Netherlands. Since friday I've rescued a horsfield tortoise hatched in 2015. About me: I'm 41 years old and since I was nine I've always had duo's or trio's of guinea pigs until I was 35, I still love them and they've always had huge enclosures and fed as...
