Those outdoor runs are incredible for outdoors Jo. Nice and he will so enjoy it outside.
I have used those for many things and they can be made so secure so the sky is the limit.

Hi Jo.
No worries.
Your plant with the purple flower is indeed thistle and fine for your tortoise diet.

Re: Plant ID please
I am wondering if the first shrub might be an Abelia, although it is not a sure bet so I would like another photo from a distence Jo, and maybe one when buds of even dead flowers are visible. The one with the white flowers on if what we call an umbel and because most are unfeedable for tortoises we ...

Thanks for the update on the photos. I would say exactly the same as Nina as it goes. Either way you have a feeder but freely or moderation is the key. Ot looks like the flower buds of Chickory but the leaves and stems look like Blue Sow thistle. There isnt two photos there of different plants, is t...

I know Nina is dealing with your question but I would just like to say this is looking very good to me and I wouldnt cut the legs of because I think it would be cozier with the legs and he can still get in and out via the ramp.
Well done for all your efforts.

Yes, you are 100% correct Oxalis. Its Campion and as Nina has given you our entry for it here it is again showing its a no feed because of the saponin. https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/plant-database/viewplants/?plant=328&c=6#.WydaPyAnaM8 Lin Oxalis wrote: > Thank you both for the input; I th...

Re: New Tort Owner. Big Garden. Many weeds. Please help!
Hiya. Your first one could in fact be Dock, but it does look very 'clean'. Dock usually has lots of burns, holes and reddening of the leaves so for now we should leave this one until it grows a bit more. The second photo is in fact 'Stinging' nettle and I am sure I will be proved right if you care t...

Hiya, and congratulations on becoming a tortoise owner. You will be hooked in all forme of tortoise keeping and gardening in a short while, I bet. LOL - I have to laugh at your nettle and forget me not comments. A nettle will sting and a false or dead nettle will not. The only problem you have if fi...

Hi Mekie I have a feeling this is defiantley a brassica plant and might be Pennycress or Alysum. We dont have pennycress on the database but we do have Alysum and plenty of other brassicas which all contain goitrogens and the advise is to only feed in moderation. https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/...

That does seem a much better idea by having the extra couple of hours.
Go for it. If it turns bad then just keep him nice and snug the next day.

Hiya Teddy.
Can I just ask if he would have anywhere to shelter if the sun didnt come out or it rained. I know Nina has a little house where hers can go into if they need but they are brought inside every night.
Hopefully she will be along soon to show it to you.

Hi John.
I have to agree with Nina, and say your vet really must be an exotic vet that specalises in tortoises and not one that see's the run of the mill furrys.
Can you also let us know if you hibernated Jarvis.
