Re: Horsfield tortoise claws
Hi Emma. Kimchi’s nails look fine to me. As you say digging is a favourite pastime they also need longish nails for balancing on the females back when mating. You could easily make a ramp from a roof slate at an angle butting up against a mound of largish pebbles for him to clamber up and over and i...

Re: Weighing new hatchling!
Hi KT, thanks for contacting us with a photo of your lovely tortoise, am I right in thinking it’s a Redfoot ? Where abouts, what country are you in to be having those night time temps. I know it’s not England. 😂 It’s nice to have the hibiscus, they love those flowers and leaves and they are on the g...

Re: Hibiscus?
Hi Kyle
Your flower is a Mediterranean Hibiscus, one of the multi or double flowered variety and tortoises love them, both leaves and flowers.
Here is our entry for it.

Tank and Bowser are Hermann tortoises that at 3 years are too young to sex and they are looking for a forever home because of a health situation and house move, the owner is looking for someone to take over their care from Warwick CV35. After a dodgy start Tank and Bowser started the early days in a...

Re: Outside Heating
Hi Phil Thanks for the clarification and if you say it’s all water tight and you have an outdoor water tight sockets then I will say yes it will be okay. I would still make a loop at the lowest point of the droop of wire though. Sorry but electrics are a bit scary and you are always extra cautious. ...

Re: Outside Heating
Hi Phil, sorry to be so late in getting to you, I was busy ordering halogen lights. Lol If I was honest I wouldn’t place any bulbs outside in all weathers without a covering to prevent ANY moisture entering even if it does say it’s waterproof. It’s too risky where tortoises are involved, well any pe...

Hi Emma, and what a nice 1st time for you. No longer available. - Torti - Horsfield. - Aberdare, S Wales
Horsfield tortoise from South Wales, CF44 0HA is in need of a home that can offer to take over Torti’s care. At just over 18 months old Torti (unsexed) loves human contact, isn’t shy and the owners have come to the heartbreaking decision to let Torti move onto someone that can offer the time, space ...

Re: Accidental hibernation 3 days in
I forgot to mention my thoughts on bathing. Yes, bathing any tortoise is a good thing and nice warm water to a depth just below the mouth. Around 15 - 20 mins is good but just remember to keep the water warm by topping it up with warm. Lin Sunshine wrote: > Thank you so much Lyn for your sage advice...

Re: Accidental hibernation 3 days in
Hi Sunshine. As you or your tortoise hasn’t prepared for this hibernation I would say your instinct is right and go with number 3. I would start by getting her up two or three times daily and placing her under the heat, make sure the room is bright as well as the light on the table. What are the tem...

Hi Steve. Just to let you know that I don’t think you can see Facebook pages unless you have one yourself. We do also advertise them on the forum rehoming page so keep watching that. I must say that I am unlike Nina I not biased with tortoises - they are all lovely to me, especially the Herman...

Re: Steepness of ramp?
Hi Steve, I must agree with Nina that your enclosure looks amazing and as she has given you the answers to your questions I won’t do the same. What I will ask though is that you don’t buy a tortoise because there are so many that needs rehoming. We get them on our Facebook page almost daily and one ...

Hiya, sorry I don’t know your name, but thanks for contacting us. The lovely Margies, beautiful tortoises aren’t they. REHOMED - Wilson - (M) 5 years old Horsfield. West Midlands
Sadly, the lovely Wilson, 5 year old male Horsfield needs to find a home where he will be loved for and given the care he deserves. Hi Phil As far as I am aware isopods are used as a clean up crew, eating dead vegetation and the fungus gnat eggs. Yes, a tortoise will most probably eat them if they come across any and even get some excercise whilst hunting for them but I wouldn’t overdo then or use as a food because as we know th...
