Re: Travelling with a tortoise

Hi Nina and Lin, thanks to both of you for your helpful replies. Yes he is a horsefield so i will definitely heed your advice Nina, that scenario you described made me chuckle, although I m guessing it was no laughing matter at the time! I 've noted about not using the water bottle and keeping him d...

Travelling with a tortoise

Hi there, Would welcome advice on the topic of travelling by car with a tortoise please. We 're taking a week's holiday in the UK and the holiday cottage we 've booked is happy for us to bring tortoise along in his temporary enclosure (a guinea pig cage). We 've chosen to take him along as he s quit...

Re: Suitable wood for building outdoor enclosure

Thanks Lin, It's all very helpful and I'm hoping today's weather was a mere blip in our beautiful summer. T'was heartening to see His Nibs stretched out in his indoor table, under his sunlamp this morning as I set forth to the wet and windy hills to forage for his weeds! They get a grip of you, thes...

Re: Suitable wood for building outdoor enclosure

Hi all, i've been able to view Joe's posts and photos on tortoise trust forum, really helpful and lots of useful ideas.
Joe, what type of mesh is it , it looks extremely sturdy and i've not seen any like that before?
Thanks

Re: Suitable wood for building outdoor enclosure

Thanks Elaine, I 've registered on Tortoise Trust website just waiting to be accepted then I 'll have a good read. Lumisol Clear sounds interesting thanks. Breeze block base sounds ideal, unfortunately our outdoor enclosure will just have to be wood as it 'll be a semi permanent arrangement until we...

Re: Suitable wood for building outdoor enclosure

Thanks Nina I 'll take a look. Looking out the window I think a wooden row boat might be more in order, not stopped raining all day!

Suitable wood for building outdoor enclosure

Hi, just need a little advice please, we 're planning a secure outdoor enclosure so we can leave Tortollini outside unsupervised. We'll have to build on patio so planning to raise slightly off floor to allow drainage but what i'm not sure about is if we're ok using decking boards from wickes - which...

Re: Weight Gain

Thanks Emma, thanks Nina. Good advice and I hope the antibiotic injections work, I don't envy you the task of oral administration - they certainly can wriggle can't they!! I weighed my little chap again this morning and his weight is 2g down on yesterday so i guess it's just fluctuations. He's also ...

Re: Weight Gain

Hi Emma I read your posts from a couple of months back about Ptolemy's weight gain and just wondered how his weight is going, since cutting back his food quantities? My 8 year old has been maintaining a steady weight then put on a lot in last couple of weeks (10g) so i'm maybe overfeeding him. He lo...

I'm sure i'll be posting other plants for identification, there are so many that I 've never noticed in my pre tortoise days.

Re: Help with plant ID please

Just read latest post about this plant and link in database. Yes having seen pictures it most definitely fits the Fringe cup profile. Fortunately I didn't pick any for Tortollini as he s turned in for the night. Here's another couple of pics. Think you Nina and Lin [attachment=0]20170506_191327.jpg[...

Help with plant ID please

Hi there, I need to identify this plant please, it appeared in my garden last year, no idea where it came from but has come back again this year. Two close ups of flowers which start out white then tinge to pink. Other photo (sideways on) is of full plant. Please note there's an astilbe and alchemil...
