Sleeping habits
Hi all, Wanted to ask about sleeping habits- my Horsefield Winston who is around 4-5 years old has taken to sleeping very late recently (over the past couple of weeks). I'm wondering if it is to do with the hot weather we have been having in the UK lately? His table temps at night haven't been going...

Re: Lawn spray
Hi Nina,
No problem, thanks again for sharing those. No, the spay wasn't used on the terrace thankfully, so good to know if he nibbles some of that moss he'll be fine.
Thanks,
Saurin

Re: Lawn spray
Hi Nina, I did get the images, thank you - that enclosure looks so great! Did they say what the dimensions were? There is a chance I could make one to go along one side of our garden fence. Also I'm thinking if I bought a tarp of some sort to cover it when it's not in use/ when it rains that would a...

Re: Lawn spray
Thanks Nina, For some reason the photos didn't save/upload properly, they open only with a tiny sliver of the image showing. Happy for you to direct message them to me if you can? Unfortunately the wall of our house at the back gets no sunlight as the back garden is north facing (front of house is s...

Re: Lawn spray
Hi Nina, Thanks for that, I am waiting for them to come back to me with the name so will investigate whether it's just a surface weed killer or not. The gardeners had just taken it upon themselves and hadn't checked with me, so I'll make sure they don't do that again! In the meantime, I've fenced of...

Lawn spray
Hi all, So I'm really keen to take my Winston out for some fun in the garden sunshine, but I've learned that unfortunately the gardeners who came at the beginning of May had sprayed some 'Weed & Feed' down on the grass  I've got in touch to ask them the brand name so I can check ingredients...

Re: Rescued Horsfield - weight and brumation
Thanks Nina, much appreciated :) His second day today seems to be going a bit better, although he's still trying to chew on his logs and I caught him trying to have a munch on a spider plant and an aloe plant that are in his enclosure so I've had to take those out(!) Poor little dude now has a very ...

Re: Rescued Horsfield - weight and brumation
Hi Nina, So today is Winston's first day of wind-down and I feel SO BAD  He keeps wandering around trying to find his breakfast/lunch and then he's chewing on the little logs in his table (he has three little upside down logs to walk over/ hide in) because he's hungry. Argh... tough love I know...

Re: Rescued Horsfield - weight and brumation
Hi Nina, Thank you very much for that, I will make a spreadsheet and start filling it out now for when he begins his wind down next week. It's funny, I think that guilt is kicking in early re his fast etc. as I understand tortoises really don't like change, so I have a feeling I'm going to be mutter...

Re: Rescued Horsfield - weight and brumation
Hi Nina, Thank you :) I have a feeling I may be posting on here a bit due to first time Tort Mother jitters(!) My husband and I have become pretty besotted by Winston and I'm such a softy with him that I have a feeling I'm going experience exactly as you've described below! I will keep you posted on...

Re: Rescued Horsfield - weight and brumation
Hi Nina, Amazing, thank you so much! Apologies for not putting my name in my original posts - my name is Saurin (sounds like Lauren). Thanks for the tips on weighing and substrate, and re the substrate for brumation. I like the idea of shredded newspaper for being able to tell if there is a wee by c...

Re: Rescued Horsfield - weight and brumation
Hi Nina, Thanks so much :) Any and all advice is very much appreciated so thank you very much for the Wind Down Template, I will definitely use it! Also, if you could send through the guides that would be fab. I did have a look at The Tortoise Trust guide to brumation, but reading the ones you recom...

Re: Rescued Horsfield - weight and brumation
Hi there, I'm replying to your post about Khan as my question is related to yours so apologies for piggy-backing in on your post(!) I'm new to the forum and am also a new tort mom, having rescued a Horsfield in July this year - I have a couple of questions about brumation that I could also really do...
