Started on outdoor enclosure.

Post by beeclaire80 » 24 Mar 2021, 16:42

Hi,

Hope we are all safe and well.

We have started in Floyd’s outdoor area. I’ve just read another post about ragwort and we too have little patches popping up all over the garden! We have been digging it up and burning it when we see it.

I’ve attached what we have so far.
Hubby has built a boxing out of fascia boards, we have then put down weed fabric that is breathable (drainage?), then small mesh, then stones. This is our base/drainage part. Hubby will be building a frame out of decking which will fit around the base, this will then be filled with soil. The decking frame will be a couple of feet tall to enable enough soil to dig and enough height that he hopefully won’t escape!
The whole thing will then have a hinged lid!

Claire.

That’s looking and sounding good Claire. I can’t wait to see the end product and the happy tortoise that will live in there.
Keep at it with the Ragwort and you will win. Making sure it never goes to seed will help.

Thanks Lin!

We have a field/waste ground behind the house and there’s a fair few patches of it there so I can only imagine it’s blown in on the wind and self seeded! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Can’t wait to get Floyd out enjoying some natural UV

This looks amazing, Claire -- and so well thought out. Like Lin, I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished product!
