Hello,
This flower is growing at the edge of our yard and we wonder if it is safe for our Horsfield Tortoise.
Thank you!

Re: Wildflower in Florida
Hi Brazierfam and thanks for sending the photos in. It's not one that I recognize immediately, but don't worry, we're working on it and will get you an ID a.s.a.p.

Re: Wildflower in Florida
I've had a look and I'm sure it is Rhexia mariana (Pale Meadowbeauty), but I would like to do one more check. Could you send me a close-up of some leaves, or confirm that when you look at a leaf it has parallel lines/veins running the length of it, and might also be covered in very tiny soft hairs?
If it is Rhexia then it is edible, but perhaps feed it in moderation, rather than freely. I have read that Gopher tortoises have been observed eating Rhexia, but it is low on their priority list for plants, so there might be a reason why they don't eat lots of it.
I hope that helps, and do let me know if the leaves have parallel veins on them.

I agree it is Rhexia Nina. I had a post to send but popped out and forgot to send it.
