Can you ID these for me please?

Use this forum for identification of plants and flowers found in the UK. To allow us to help provide accurate identification we need clear pictures of the whole plant, where it is growing and close up pictures of flowers, buds or seed heads if any available. It would also be useful to see pictures showing the leaf attached to the stem.

Can you ID these for me please?

Post by beeclaire80 » 12 Nov 2020, 17:10

Hi,

I’m fairly sure one is sow thistle but the other one I’ve never seen. The plant app is saying ragwort which I know is toxic but I had a different idea of what ragwort was in my head!!

Thanks.

Thanks Lin!

This is why I don’t trust plant ID apps!

Just to add, can you tell what this seed pod is? The book I have shows a similar one that is musk mallow.

Yes, that definitely looks like one of the Mallows (probably Musk Mallow) to me. Some of those seed heads look ready to collect. Why not take a couple of the brown individual pods off and sow them in a little space in your garden and mark it with a stick or something. They do germinate and self seed readily, and next year you'll have lots of Musk Mallow to feed.

I’m good!

Now I know they are most probably mallow I’ll nip out and grab a couple of pods. They are literally outside my garage which opens onto a field behind my house.
