Hot Weather adjustments

Post by Nina » 05 Sep 2023, 09:08

In the UK we have very hot weather this week. For those of you with tortoises indoors, it's very important that you check the temperature in your tortoise table to ensure that it isn't too hot, because if the room is warm it will be a lot warmer in the tortoise table.

If the temperature is above 30C - 32C directly below the heat source and at the height of the tortoise's shell, then you will need to either raise the lamp up higher, so that it is further away from the tortoise, or substitute a bulb of lower wattage, and if you can't do either of those then you might need to turn the bulb off temporarily, until it cools down. Remember that a thermometer mounted on a nearby wall of the enclosure will always read several degrees cooler then it is under the lamp.
