Compost.

Hi all,
My lovely neighbour has given me 12 winter pansy plants. He planted them from seed back in autumn but they took an age to grow and he didn’t end up using them in his winter baskets.
He said they are grown in bog standard compost but couldn’t remember the brand. He doesn’t add any fertiliser or insecticides.
If I was to rinse the roots and replant them in topsoil when would I be able to let Floyd eat them?
Thank you.
