Bed Time
Re: Bed Time
How sweet is that! My Doris and Dolly are similar and love nothing more than to cram themselves into a tight space and snuggle up together.

Oh wow, love this! I'm really considering getting a second Hermann's to keep Pattern company! Do they interact much?

Re: Bed Time
My two (both females) interact a lot and get along well, but it's probably best to wait until you know the sex of yours, as you can't really keep one male tortoise with one female. Male tortoises are relentless in their pursuit of females, and they constantly bite the female or ram her shell (depending on the species), and really harrass her. If you are keeping a male and want females you need at least two females so that one of them can have some respite while the other is being pursued. You can keep two females together, and occasionally (but not always) you can keep two males together. When they are really young there isn't a problem, but as soon as they begin to develop sexually (age 5 - 7) then problems do start.
In the wild they tend to live on their own, so they are OK kept on their own in captivity, but I have to admit that when I got Dolly I found that Doris did seem to enjoy having the company.

Hi Nina,
Yes waiting until I can confirm Pattern's gender is a really good idea!
I have other questions but will start a new post for thoughs!

Yes they do. The get on really well and do a lot together. it took a couple of weeks to sort them selves out, but now it seems they enjoy each others company

It looks great!. I have a little sign that someone cross-stitched for me, and it hangs on the side of Doris and Dolly's table.

Re: Bed Time
How beautiful hope to see more of Dolly and Doris
Re: Bed Time
Here's a photo of Doris and Dolly taken a few years ago, alongside a 'topiary' tortoise that I made from bits and pieces in my shed and some succulents from the garden.
