Runner beans

Post your pictures and any questions here of European tortoises e.g. Ibera Spur Thigh, Ibera Graeca, Marginated, Hermanns, Kleinmanni and we include the Horsfield tortoise. Also, do add pictures of Mediterranean tortoises you have seen in the wild.

Hi BeccaPedro,

Welcome to The Tortoise Table and many congratulations on getting you Hermann's tortoise!

I'm afraid that the pods of runner beans are not a good food for tortoises (alhough the leaves can be fed in moderation). Here is a link to the entry for Runner Beans on our website plant database so you can see why:
https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/pla ... -xmyxanyM8

here are still lots of weed and some plants in the garden that you can feed (sowthistle, dandelion, plantain, ground cover campanula, winter flowering pansies and more), and from supermarkets you can feed some kale (but keep that in moderation as it is a member of the cabbage family which is not generally recommended for feeding).

You can type the name of any plant into the search box that is on every page of the website, or you can use our filter tool to produce lists of edible plants (scroll down to the 'How to use Traffic Light Filters' section on this page: https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/pla ... -xn3RanyM8

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any more questions or problems. You probably already have a good care sheet for Hermann's, but if not then here is a link to one: https://www.tortoise-protection-group.o ... 014New.pdf

Best wishes,
Nina
