Identifying Floyd!

So...

Having posted a couple of pictures of Floyd elsewhere someone has queried what species/sub species he is. So I thought I would ask here.

His A10 paperwork just says “Testudo Hermanni” but I’m aware he could be eastern or Western. However someone has now questioned if he is Dalmatian.

So thoughts?

After reading a webpage last night I’m really not sure anymore!!

Hi Claire,

That's an excellent site that you read last night, and Chris Leone (whose site it is), is probably the best authority anywhere on Hermann's tortoises. I am really terrible at IDs. Lin might come on and have a go, but I think you would be best to ask Chris to ID Floyd. He has a Facebook group here, where you could post photos: https://www.facebook.com/groups/353601258116475/ or I think his email is chrleone@gmail.com if you want to email him. He's a really nice bloke and will know for sure what subspecies Floyd is. And let us know what you find out.

Chris has confirmed Floyd is most definitely an Eastern Herman’s 😁

So he's a Thb -- isn't it exciting to know his sub-species! And there is loads of information on Chris's Hermanni Haven website about this sub-species, so you've got lots of interesting reading ahead of you.

Cheers,
Nina
