Tortoise care for beginners

Hello everyone! I'm new here and excited to join the community. I've recently adopted a young Hermann's tortoise and I'm keen on providing the best care possible. Could anyone share their experiences with indoor enclosure setups, particularly what has worked well for maintaining the right temperature and humidity levels throughout the year?

Hello and welcome to our Forum, and I'm so sorry that no one has replied to your post! I don't know what happened because usually we receive an email telling us that someone has posted, and we didn't on this occasion.

So maybe better late than never, but to get the ball rolling, here is a link to a good care sheet for Hermann's tortoises, and if you can post some photos of his enclosure that would be great. https://www.tortoise-protection-group.o ... 014New.pdf

In general you want as much space as possible, and a table with a ramp leading up to a second level can be a good use of space, and tortoises love climbing and exploring. The main thing to get right is the temperature and light levels, so it's really useful to be able to raise and lower your heat source, in order to increase or decrease the temperature in the table. It's also important to measure the temperature directy under the lamp and at the height of the tortoise's shell, as a thermometer mounted on a nearby wall will not give you an accurate reading ofthe temperature under the lamp.

I can post more, but it's been such a long time since you posted your message that I'm not sure if you will see this. Many apologies!

Nina
