Tortoises and hens

Hello all,
We have hens and a tortoise. Currently they live separate lives - the hens wander freely in almost all areas of the lawn and the tortoise stays in his outdoor enclosure when the weather is good. This is because we don't want the hens bothering the tortoise and passing on parasites and we don't want the tortoise giving the hens salmonella.
We would love to give the tortoise more lawn as it turns out he likes to eat grass and we could fence a larger section off to keep the hens out. But their poop is everywhere. Does anybody know how long it takes hens poop (and anything harmful in it) to become harmless to tortoises? I would also like to know how long it takes tortoise poop to become harmless to hens!?
Thanks,
TP
