New Outdoor Enclosure

Post by beeclaire80 » 06 Aug 2021, 12:16

Hi,

It’s been ages since I’ve been on. We’ve been super busy here.

We’ve spent the last month or so building a new outdoor enclosure for Floyd.

It’s not perfect or finished yet but he’s loving it.

We need to add a heated and insulated shed at some point so he can be out all year but for now he comes in when the weather isn’t suitable.

It has a lumisol covered area and I’ve some seeds to plant.

Great to hear from you, and I think you've done an absolutely brilliant job -- it looks great! Lots of interest and variety in there for Floyd, and the lumisol will ensure that he can be under cover and still get the UVB. I'm not surprised that he is loving it.

A heated and insulated shed should be fine for most weathers, but if he is going to be out there all year and not hibernate then it will have to be carefully planned and really well insulated, because if we have sub-zero temperatures for any sustained period of time it can be difficult to keep the temperature up to what you need -- but it can be done very successfully and I'm sure you will succeed!

It's so good to see the results of people's efforts when they've done their research properly and put the work in -- you should be really proud of what you've achieved!

Hi Nina,

Thanks for the comments.

I think we are going to hibernate this year.

We are also planning a larger table in the living room so he’ll probably come in once autumn comes. I’m a sucker for seeing him stomping round!

That all sounds great to me. Let me know if you need instructions for winding down (the most important part of hibernating) and the various methods of hibernating. And do send photos of the posh new indoor enclosure too!
