Re: “On his back” advice!

Ahh I typed a reply and it disappeared! I’ll try lowering the flower pot a bit as well and see how that goes. I need to peel off the wall thermometers! My digital probe ones finally arrived but I can’t work out how to fix them in the the enclosure! When I left them on the floor he tried to eat them!...

“On his back” advice!

Hi all, Floyd’s enclosure has had an upgrade and he’s loving it. Stomping round, climbing and so on! However, he has ended up on his back a few times, once or twice was pretty close to the heat lamp/basking area!! Luckily I am working from home so am able to check on him but am worried he will do it...

Re: No weight gain

Hi Nina, I thought my days talking about poo were long gone now my youngest is 10! Well he’s not done any today so I’m guessing he’s had a big clear out! I’ll weigh him again next week and see how it looks! We’ve finally sorted his light out today so it’s not on the angle any more and his enclosure ...

No weight gain

Hi, Hope we are all well? I weighed Floyd today as he was in a very active mood after a couple of sleepy days! He hasn’t gained anything since I got him. He was 47g on 23/9/20 and is still 47g now. He has had 4 poos today though (2 before weighing) and 2 after and has had a big wee with urates in (h...

Thermometer placement

Hi, So my probe thermometer arrived along with my humidity monitor (which also has the temp on it!) but I’ve no idea how or where to attach it. I remember a mention of it hanging down from the light but I’m currently unable to move my light as it’s a clamp lamp and we don’t seem to be able to attach...

Re: Identifying Floyd!

Chris has confirmed Floyd is most definitely an Eastern Herman’s 😁 Nina wrote: > Hi Claire, > > That's an excellent site that you read last night, and Chris Leone (whose > site it is), is probably the best authority anywhere on Hermann's > tortoises. Re: My questions.

Hi Nina,

The moss was to make a humid hide for him?

He’s got a calcium rock but all he does is climb over it so I’ve been rubbing it on his food every other day? (It kind of flakes off!)

Will check if the thermometer has max/min on it.

Hi Nina,

Sorry to bother you (again!) but can you tell me if this is the right stuff?
The moss and the Nutrobal.

Thank you.

Re: Mum’s garden! Can I have an ID please

Hi Lin,

Thank you! I think part of it is my dad’s photography skills. I’m going to visit them at the weekend so will get some better pictures and send them!

Thanks.

Identifying Floyd!

So... Having posted a couple of pictures of Floyd elsewhere someone has queried what species/sub species he is. So I thought I would ask here. His A10 paperwork just says “Testudo Hermanni” but I’m aware he could be eastern or Western. However someone has now questioned if he is Dalmatian. So though...

Mum’s garden! Can I have an ID please

My dad, god love him, has just sent me all of these pictures and asked if there is anything Floyd can eat!

So, can I have an ID please!

(Their garden backs onto an allotment. Everything that is in pots has been planted before April)

Re: Liner and sleeping area!

So last night I didn’t move Floyd and left him curled up next to to his plant pot (I actually forgot to move him 😳). Turned his lamp on at 7.30 this morning and realised (well after I looked in the sleeping part and panicked that he’d escaped 😂) that he was where he was. By 8am he was awake and mooc...

My questions.

Hi, Me again. I’m hoping this will be my last post for a while. My reason for posting here is because I asked a question in a Facebook group last night and got absolutely roasted. I went to bed thinking that I’m going to end up seriously harming Floyd. You guys have never ever made me feel that way,...

Re: Noises

Hi Both, The sides are currently too high for him to stretch and see over although he does try to climb up them (he loves to climb). He’d been in the water for about 10 minutes, I’d topped it up with warm so it was still ok. It was a bit deep when I first put him in and I had to take him out and pou...

Noises

Hi, Me again. Having Floyd is filling me with anxiety! Whilst in the bath today he was making squeaking noises. He seems fine. Is eating, pooing, weeing and passing urates. On Saturday he was really active. Bombing round his table, in and out of his water, climbing and so on. Was quiet and sleepy ye...

Re: Liner and sleeping area!

Hi Nina, As ever your help and advice is very useful and welcome! He does love a good corner to sleep in!! The temp drops to about 15 ish at night. We’ve a big lounge and the heating currently isn’t on (hubby won’t budge till October!) We’ve added some more substrate, a plant pot and some slate toda...

Re: Liner and sleeping area!

Hi Nina, Will sort a liner out. Thank you. Have attached pictures of the dark sleeping area. The heat mat is behind a glass partition and gives out a low heat (the glass isn’t hot to touch if that helps). The picture with me hand in shows where I have been encouraging him to sleep (the guy at the re...

Liner and sleeping area!

Hi, Quick question (well two actually!) Does my table need a liner? It currently doesn’t have one. If so what is best to use? Second, the “sleeping” area has a little mound of soil which I’ve been popping Floyd onto at night (he falls asleep in the corner but the reptile guy we got him from advised ...
