Re: Any idea what this trefoil is please?

Me again with another photo which better shows the hooky / spikey seed pods, & that the flowers (like tiny pea flowers) are individual (if fuzzy!)

Any idea what this trefoil is please?

In the meadow at work (school) & I've failed miserably! Sprawling habit, amongst Black Medic, grass & white clover, mainly, with tiny yellow pea-type flowers singly, sort of in pairs, & larger spikey pods than one would expect from s...

Re: Arum maculatum - a small nibble!

Crikey - I'd never heard of raphides before. I've now done a bit of reading & realise their mode of action. I had no idea. Fascinating (or horrifying...)!

I have often wondered how animals tend to avoid poisonous plants. Sometimes smell I guess. Sometime instinct?...Then sometimes not.

Re: Weed identification please

How about 'cut-leaved Cranesbill' or similar. One look at those leaves made me think tiny (almost minute) pink flowers...?

Re: Arum maculatum - a small nibble!

Thank you both. She's fine in herself, charging about as usual, eating as usual, etc. I have a theory.....these are very new leaves. Surely, this type of substance builds up over time as the leaves mature, so that very young leaves will have a very low level of the oxalate, if any? Might this be why...

Arum maculatum - a small nibble!

Hi - OK, I know! I WILL dig them up later, but Achillea has never looked twice at them, & I just popped her outside the door where she was 'scrabbling' to go out, & a few minutes later saw her take a nibble. I'm guessing that this won't be a serious issue? Should I worry?

Re: Are ultrasonic spider repellant plug ins safe for tortoises?

Spiders - AGH - talking large, fast moving 'house spiders' esp. in September when the males (I believe) go walkabout in search of females. Like many, these are my Achilles(!!) heel, although I have found that caring for & handling 'pink winged stick insects' has desensitised me to smaller spider...

Hi Linda - I have absolutely no expertise, but I'm surprised that no one else has replied...so I'm replying to ping it to the top of the list again. I hope Rocko is OK.

Vid of Timmy being angry

Hi - not really 'on thread' regards tortoise care, but I'm guessing this owner needs care himself! I found this story in a newspaper just now, & searched for the vid..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymuFA35diU0 I'm guessing this tortoise is male? What advice would you give the owner I wonder...

Knapweed!....... ? I have a field full of something that looks wildly similar.

Heather (so enjoying the game of looking at all the pics & trying to get the answer before reading your correct ones - rather like 'beat the into.' for records!) :D

Hi again on this thread - lovely ponds, to which I aspire! However, are they in this country (GB) & if so - are the turtles gathered up to indoors over winter?

Absolutely nothing, so far - & as someone with way too many dependants - scaled, shelled & furry - & none too young, this is something I really need to address before I fall off my perch!!

Thanks for the prod - a very important subject, as Laura says......

Re: Beak Trimming

Thanks both - when Achillea first came to me her beak was trimmed as a part of her initial health check. It appears to be rather overshot - but maybe that's normal(?). She is fed on a stone hearth, but that doesn't seem to have helped. I don't think it's a big problem...yet! I understand what you sa...

Re: Ragwort

Hi - regards ragwort - as a horse owner this is something that has been of interest to me for most of my 60 odd years!! In general, horse won't eat ragwort growing in their fields, except maybe if they are starving, as there is something in the growing plant that deters them. The danger to horses is...

Wow....absolutely WOW!!! I had no idea, &, to be honest, had never thought about how a hard-shelled beastie fitted in an egg!

Thank you so much for this insight, Bex.

Again...WOW....

Sorry to be thick - what is MBD? (in words - I can see it clearly in action!). I realise it will probably be blindingly obvious when you tell me.
