Ooh, I had one of those. I think it’s still in a box in the shed from when we moved. Aren’t they cute.

REHOMED Female Horsfield. - West Dunbartonshire
What a lovely tortoise Twiggles is, a female Horsfield of 5 years old from West Dunbartonshire. She has been a school tortoise for about a year and is now in the care of a ‘foster home’, shall we say because it isn’t necessary to leave her in the school now the caregiver has retired. So, through no...

Hi Phil.
It’s just a hierarchy/ dominance thing. They will be fine until we know for definite what the sex is.

Hi Phil
If he has nowhere to go to warm up then I would put him out but keep watch for when he slows down and bring him in to warm up. He can go out again if he warms up though.

Re: How much is Feed in Moderation?
Hi Phil. This is what we advise Amber with a green square indicates that you can feed the plant in moderation. You could feed these in small amounts every day, or several times a week. The choice is yours. Thanks for the link. I have just realised you have been here a while. Enjoy this heat and I ho...

Re: Hermann tortoise croak sounds
Hi Yes, I caught it that time, thanks for your patience and perseverance It sounds like a squeak and I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about. It could be part of the beak rubbing so it might be a matter of looking closely and waiting to try a detect what part of the beak it’s coming from, ...

Re: Hermann tortoise croak sounds
Hiya, congratulations on becoming a new tortoise owner and what a lovely little one Terry is. I couldn’t really hear the noise Terry was making but do you find he does it mostly when you’re looking at him or you’re nearby, perhaps made a louder than normal noise. The reason I ask this is because a n...

Re: Tortoise right eye not opening.
Hiya Anandita. I was hoping you were going to say Chloramphenicol, it’s perfect (I use it on my own eyes) and it does come in drops form and I find they are much easier to administer and so much less stressful. A vet will also prescribe it for runny nose issues. I’m just going to look at the photo a...

Re: Tortoise right eye not opening.
Hi Anandita, Truck is a cutie all wrapped up nice and snug. I don’t know if I am imagining it but is there a little mark where I have circled it on Trucks photo? I would also say keep on with the get but I do think drops would absorb better. What is the gel called? As for the substrate - this was po...

It might be interesting for you to know that the uv measuring system from 1 to 10 in England was actually 6 on Thursday. Even though it was dull, overcast and cloudy. Today with the sunshine in the south east it was between 3 and 5. The strength of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation is expressed a...

Re: Substrate
Hi Phil, Yes, those that have tortoises indoors in an open top enclosure usually spot clean daily and give it a substrate change and thorough clean once a month or so. A little tip is if you bath a tortoise in nice warm water for around 20 mins it will usually do the deed while in the bath making it...

‘Fhuair. Male T.g. Ibera. E. yYorkshire
We have a male Testudo greaca Ibera (T.g.i) in Driffield, E. Yorkshire, named ’Fhuair (Scottish Gaelic meaning ‘found’; pronounced ‘Hoo-ar’) because he was found wandering in 1975, and placed carefully in a box and left on the doorstep of a local well known ‘Good Samaritan’ who has looked after him ...
