I agree Nina. Was having a little trouble with the euphorbia but I think it’s a Euphorbia amygdaloides variety robbiae, common name Mrs Robb’s bonnet

They seem fine to me Laura. As you say you have rocks and different textures for him to clamber over they will be worn down and when he goes outside for summer that also helps a lot.

Re: Nail Care
Hi and a warm welcome to our forum.
It would be great to see a photo of the tortoise and especially the nail area before we comment. Just to satisfy ourselves we are giving out the correct advise.
So if you could upload one I would be greatful and we will get back as soon as possible.

Re: Winter feeding
Hi Shelley. Depending on where you are you may be able to keep dandies growing for a while longer. In the South of the UK with a light fleece placed around most weeds we can keep them growing. It would have been good if you started to just add teeny bits of other good weeds and flowers (plantain, pa...

Re: Nervous About Diet
The number one thing you must NOT do is panic. Unless a tortoise is say a Redfoot or Yellowfoot or any other fruit eatinf species then it should not eat friot or veg and that is because their gut isnt designed to cope with the sugars in fruits and vegetables. It will upset the gut flora and cause sm...

Re: Powersun Bulbs
Hi Vikki. I have never used a dimmer and the way we regulate the temperature under the heat lamps is to raise the bulb to make it cooler underneath or lower it to raise the level of heat. Some of us use an adjustable lamp holder like this -- [attachment=0]Screenshot-2017-10-28 s-l300 jpg (JPEG Image...

Hi Vikki.
I was just going to come in and say what Nina said about you being well versed in the care and housing of a new tortoise. Well done to you and your tortoise for having a carer such as yourself.

I have just been outside and double checked my Canna's and it does appear to be one of those. They are also just having a second spurt of growth at the mo and mine have buds as well on some of the bigger ones.

Re: Winter
Hiya. Nina has given you some great advise for your little beautys, Especially about the viv not being ideal for any tortoises but leopards and sulcatas do also need space to exercise those legs enough to carry that heavy shell. As long as tortoises have the hot/basking spot to heat up under they wi...

Send in photos of the nether regions Richy and we will have a look. How old is Mr/s B. Re the chip. I believe that once tortoises are over a specific size (that might be 100g) the vet will chip but it is only advisable to have a vet do it and a reputable reptile vet that can deal with tortoises. Hi Heather.
I think for a first time trim I woudl go along to a vrt and ask them to show you how it is done so if you need to in the future then you will know what to do.
I used nail clippers when I did mine as I thought the Dremels were to scary for me - lol.

Re: Underweight Spur Thigh
Hi Matt I agree with Nina. There really isnt a set weight for a tortoise no matter the age and like us they will put on and drop weight when they like. As long as they dont loose to much week after week when you should then start to investigate what could be wrong but a little loss would be nothing ...

Hi Jessica Top one, purple flower, is Campanula and thats a great one for tortoises Middle one with spikes is one of the mints but not sure what one so best leave it. Bottom one with the teeny white flower is Chickweed and another that is fine. You can type any of those into the search once in the d...
