Re: Temperature gun readings
Sorry for late reply I didn't get a notification to say I had a reply lol. I tried that out and Cool side says 22 with the laser and 22.7 with probe on the ground, a little way from the lamp says 35.6 with laser and 35.4 with probe on ground. I've got to work what the environment setting is, I think...

Temperature gun readings
Hi hope everyone is well? I've purchased a infrared thermometer gun to get more accurate readings although I also use the probe thermometer hanging down under the basking light etc. How do I take accurate readings with the gun, do I point it directly onto the substrate under the lamp etc and what sh...

Re: Dry skin on Tortoises head.
I bath him a couple of times a week sometimes more but he does like to sit in his water bowls as well and I've just left it alone apart from he likes a little head rub in the morning after ascending from his overnight lair, he sits at the side of his enclosure waiting, then trundles about once he's ...

Thank you Nina, that's relief I was worried.
Should I bathe him more or just let it take its course?

Dry skin on Tortoises head.
Hello, hope you're well?
Trucks head looks very dry, it's been like it for a little while.
Is this normal and is there anything I can do to help him? Other than that Truck seems fit and well.
Thanks,
Amanda

Re: Maintaining temperature
Thank you so much Nina, it means a lot to know I'm getting it right for Truck
The basking lamp is 20cm from the substrate and the uvb is 37cm from Trucks shell so it might be the photo angle lol.

Re: Maintaining temperature
Thanks Nina, Happy New year π Hope you had a wonderful holiday. I have Arcadia T5 12% uvb and separate swell basking heat lamp and a thermometer probe hanging down from the lamp to shell height. I have the basking lamp 20cm from his shell, so it's ok to put it down a bit to get the temp up? The shad...

Maintaining temperature
Hello, Hope you've had a wonderful Christmas? Truck has a lovely upgraded table as he's being over wintered this year 5ft 3in by 2ft 5in, he looks so tiny in it and his favourite place to be in climbing on the massive cork log or hiding underneath it. The only problem I have is keeping the temp up u...

I've cut down Trucks food and will continue monitoring his weight gain and hopefully it won't get any worse.

Re: Is the shell staring to pyramid?
Thank you so much Nina that's really kind of you, I don't have one. I feel really bad that it's starting too look like it, other than that he's super healthy, eating well, and his opened within a week of treatment. I will keep an eye on his growth weight, is there anything else I should do to stop i...

Hello, I'm not going to hibernate Truck this year as I've only had him/her since May and I think he/she is only just a year old As weeds could be scarce I saw I can feed chrispy floret salad but I've also seen in M&S they sell edible flowers that contain pansies, would this be ok too? Anything e...

Re: Truck Eye update
It's Suffolk Exotic vets, they're on your website
The vet suspected it wasn't anything to do with his actual eye more with what was going on internally, maybe deficient a vitamin or mineral or upset of the gut something or other lol

Truck Eye update
Hello, Good news, Truck has opened his eye. I took him to a wonderful Exotic vet last week who was very thorough and prescribed him some probiotics for his food and reptosol baths everyday for 7 days, also did an eye swab and sent his poo away for analysis. Within 2 days of treatment his eye started...

Re: Tortoise right eye not opening.
Inside enclosure, I'm changing the lighting to a proT5 uvb and separate basking light rather than the combined basking/uvb I have now, literally just received the set up this morning. My dad is also making a my h bigger table for Truck as we speak
