Re: Are these safe to feed please?

Thank you Nina. My spelling mistake was one of my typical dyslexic slips 🤦🏼‍♀️😂. I wish these were my plants, but they are at some gardens I work at. However, I’ve been told I can have some so I think I’ll go for the knapweed and beebalm and leave the other one. Thank you so much for your help.

Are these safe to feed please?

Hi, I’ve got a few plants here that I’m not sure are safe to feed. The yellow flower is Centaurea Macroceohela or bighead knapweed so I’m guessing it’s safe. The red one is Mondara Didyma or Scarlet Beebalm which is a member of the bergamot family. The thistle leaves have a tall flowering stem with ...

Re: Smashed Egg

😂😂Good grief😂😂 There are lots of corvids here so maybe a bird found the snake nest, ate the egg and dropped the shell mid flight? Anyway, alls well, Herbella is fine, but I need to get more weight on her. I’ve got a whole load of plants to put in her enclosure this weekend.

Re: Smashed Egg

Hi, I love odd questions. Nina. The goo was completely clear and I think it was possibly 2 eggs. They were in a very odd place, on the grass by the boundary fence that she patrols multiple times a day. Herbella definitely eats the lime flour regularly and chomps on her indoor cuttlefish, but just st...

Re: Smashed Egg

Hopefully attached is a photo. It’s similar to a soft shelled egg from a hen. I don’t think it was from a newly hatched chick that the parent removed from the nest as there was so much goo. I can’t find any other eggs and am also not sure if what I found is one or two eggs. As for calcium, please do...

Smashed Egg

I checked Herbella when I got home from work and found a smashed egg in her enclosure in one of her favourite spots. The shell was white and soft. I’m not sure what size it would have been as it was totally smashed up with white but no yolk that I saw. What’s going on? Has Herbella laid an egg? I’ve...

Re: Night box design.

Hi, there’s absolutely no reason why I put the probes at soil level and I can’t even explain my reasoning 😂 It was possibly worrying about her getting tangled in the wire and I just thought they needed to be at soil level. Having them suspended and hanging at shell height is so much safer and more s...

Re: Night box design.

Here’s an update photo of Herbella’s house. I just have 4 bits of insulation to do and then run some boarding around the bottom so she doesn’t trash the insulation. She has a UV bulb on a timer and a ceramic bulb on a dimmer thermostat with the probe just below soil level under the bulb. There’s als...

Re: Plant ID Please

I think the leaf has curled, but it looks like a caterpillar. They’re definitely not ash seedlings. I’ll wait and see what happens. I’ve been transferring some plants into Herbella’s enclosure but will have to be patient with these 2. The lighter coloured on looks familiar, but I can’t ID it.

OMG 😂😂😂😂 Funny but probably not funny at the time! I’ve still got one stuck in my soft pallet. I’m hoping that eating will get rid of it.

Re: Night box design.

Hi, I did it at shell height. She often lies to the edge of the heat if it’s too much for her. I’d rather too hot then too cold, but had never thought of adjusting it as necessary.

Re: Prickly Pear

Brilliant, thank you. I had a hilariously stupid time. I didn’t have my glasses on so didn’t see the hairlike spines. After planting them I realised I had spike in my hands, pulled them out with my teeth and then got them stuck on my tongue!! 😂😂

Prickly Pear

Hi,

Should the spines be removed? They are very fine. I’ve just planted two in Herbella’s house and am now wondering if the spines should have been removed although I think most of them are in my hands 😂😂

Re: Night box design.

Hi The appointment is with the vet that specialises in exotics, but whether he is qualified in exotics I don’t honestly know. I can’t put Herbella through the stress of a 2hr drive to get to a specialist though and then 2hrs back again. Hopefully he knows his stuff. I’ll let you know how it goes. I’...

Re: Night box design.

Hi, thank you for your encouraging words. TBH it’s cost me a ridiculous amount of money. I moved to Scotland with no furniture, appliances etc, but with a tight budget to get what I need. I’ve bought essentials - beds, sofa, fridge etc and have then spent a fortune on Herbella and now have no budget...
