Re: Rambutan

Hi Nina, Great! Yes, it's the same plant. All the photos are of the same plant. I think the camera angle in the first shot makes it look slightly smaller than it actually is. It's huuuge. Could probably use one of the leaves as an umbrella in a pinch  I've resent the photos in a zip file this t...

Re: Rambutan

Hi Nina, Wow! Would love to contribute to the site! Honestly though, I'm not 100% sure that it's a Taro, as mentioned it did just kind of... appear there one day. But judging by the flowers and the absolutely massive size I'm guessing it's either... Colocasia gigantea: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Re: Rambutan

Hi Nina, No worries at all! I'm very grateful for the replies regardless of timing. Actually the reason I mentioned the dried leaves is cause in his current enclosure in my backyard there's a giant Taro plant growing (Elephant's ear?). I think this one is confirmed to be not good for them, but I fig...

Re: Rambutan

Hi Nina, Wow! This is really good stuff! The good news is I know it only fruits once a year, and we normally cut them straight from the branches before they fall so we can eat them ourselves haha. Unfortunately it's probably not possible to keep him 100% away from the fallen leaves because the tree ...

Re: Rambutan

Thanks Lin! He certainly is :D He came to me through rather unfortunate circumstances though - his previous owner passed away unexpectedly while he was left in a pet boarding service. I'm friends with the owner of the pet boarding, and she ended up giving him to me since the previous owner's next of...

Re: Rambutan

Hi Nina,

Much appreciated :D. Please don't rush though - it's not an issue I'll have to deal with that soon.

He (Or she) is still rather small and content living in my backyard for now. Just planning for the future is all.

Rambutan

Hi! I'm back with another plant, and this one could prove a real challenge :? Context: I've recently adopted an Aldabra, and was planning on re-homing him at my grandma's house since it's the only place I know which can accommodate him space-wise (in the future). My grandma's house does however have...

Re: Cissus Sicyoides/Verticillata

Hey Nina, That's good to know, my redfoot is really picky so I'm always on the lookout for safe plants (that he will eat  ) to add to his diet - and he seemed to really love these when he found some the other day. Anyway, thanks for all your help with the research! You guys running the site re...

Cissus Sicyoides/Verticillata

Hi, Does anyone have any opinions on the creeper vine Cissus verticillata or Cissus sicoyoides(These seem to be the same plant)? Are they safe to feed? I notice there's a page up on Cissus rhombifolia (https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/plant-database/viewplants/?plant=818&c=5#.YWgBHRwRWUl) whi...

Re: Tropical Weed ID

Thanks for the info, Nina!

Good to know it's not outright toxic, cause he's probably eaten quite abit of it by now

I'll keep checking for a way to get it ID'd and get back to you if I do!

Re: Tropical Weed ID

Another potential lead: I looked around on the site that Lin provided earlier under the Spermacoca genus and found one that seems to match the characteristics: http://www.natureloveyou.sg/Spermacoce%20latifolia/Main.html This site is actually using a Singaporean domain (.sg), and since we're geograp...

Re: Tropical Weed ID

Hi Nina, I'm in Peninsular Malaysia. About the buds, it's kind of hard to tell if they're open or not since they're so small - but I think I found one with flowers. I took a cutting and removed the leaves for a super-closeup pic (see attached). There are some universities around my area, but I've ne...

Re: Tropical Weed ID

Hi everyone! Thanks for the all replies! @Lin Close! I actually thought that might be it at first, if not for the fact that they ALSO grow in my yard alongside the mystery weed (My tortoise won't touch em' though). The leaves on the unidentified weed also have a more furry texture, similar to the st...

Tropical Weed ID

Hello! First time posting here - does anyone know what this weed is, and whether it is safe for tortoise consumption? My redfoot found a patch recently and absolutely loves eating it, to the point where he always actively searches for it on his walks now. Some other info: - I live in Malaysia, the c...
