Re: Advice please

Hi Nina

Yes all sorted thank you. We are all recovered and so far I’ve been able to keep Dumbledore awake.

Re: Advice please

Hi Nina Thanks for the advice, and yes, definitely get on to your man to service your fire! After having the entire ground floor of the house full of smoke I can definitely confirm that was the scariest day of my life. I ran in to Dumbledore as soon as I was able and he was not impressed about being...

Re: Advice please

Thanks so much Lin. I’ll order one straight away, then I can shut the conservatory doors and put the gas fire on in the living room without worrying about Dumbledore (I’m so cold!)

Do the ceramic heat emitters have to be fitted from above pointing down, or on the side of the table facing out?

Advice please

Hi everyone I really need some advice please (don’t worry, Dumbledore is ok). At the weekend I had a small chimney fire. Luckily with a mixture of all the rain we had and sheer luck we have escaped unscathed and with no damage to the house. I’ve had the chimney guy out today and I basically have to ...

Re: Outdoor enclosure

Hi Nina Well what can I say?! It’s good to have my suspicions confirmed so I can make sure I’m prepared for the over-wintering ahead of me  I don’t know where his previous owner got him from, I would assume a pet shop judging by his previous care. Looks like my enclosure plans for next year a...

Re: Outdoor enclosure

Hi Nina

Pics are below for you. The one of his underside is a bit dodgy - trying to take a pic of an un-co-operative tort one-handed is clearly a challenge!

Thanks again for your help

Re: Outdoor enclosure

Hi Nina I’ve had my doubts too and as the owner didn’t pass on his certificate I just took his word for it. However there has been a doubt in the back of my mind since the beginning. Dumbledore has put himself to bed for the night now so I will be sure to get some pictures in the morning and post th...

Re: Outdoor enclosure

Hi Nina Thanks for the reply. You’ve got my brain ticking over now as his previous owner told me that he is a Hermann, however I’ve been looking at pictures for the last couple of weeks to try and confirm this and I’m not 100% convinced he is! However I’m so new at this you could probably give me a ...

Outdoor enclosure

Hello A couple of weeks ago I knocked together a basic outdoor enclosure for Dumbledore so that he could spend some time safely outside with however many few nice days we have left before winter. I’m in a rented property and am unable to throw a load of sand and topsoil around willy-nilly so I’ve do...

Re: Snail shells

Thanks Lin, much appreciated.
Definitely don’t want any type of worms (for Dumbledore or myself! :D ) so looks like I’ll be busy removing shells from the border this weekend

Snail shells

Hey everyone

So Dumbledore likes to nibble on empty snail shells while rooting around under my rose bush, is this something that should be stopped?
Picture for cuteness as I haven’t shared one yet :D

Thanks

Re: Hermann help!

Hi Nina Well it’s been a busy couple of weeks. I knocked together a basic run for Dumbledore on my week off so that he could spend some time outside safely. Glad I did as it’s beautiful this weekend and he’s been sunbathing 8-) The indoor enclosure is still a work in progress but I’ve managed to att...

Re: Hermann help!

Hi Nina Just a little update - photos will be coming soon but still have a bit of work to do. Have been working non-stop today getting Dumbledore’s new digs sorted. So far we have lined the inside of his enclosure (who knew pond liner would be so much hard work!) and the soil/sand substrate is in. D...

Re: Hermann help!

Hi Nina Thanks for replying so quickly, and don’t worry, a lengthy post is good! Just got in from work and re-measured the enclosure. It is 3.7ftx2ft so hopefully that should be okay for a bit longer until I can build a proper tortoise table. At the moment Dumbledore is upstairs in a little-used bed...

Hermann help!

Hey everyone, newbie here! Looking forward to ‘meeting’ you all. So last Saturday with a day’s notice, I inherited my very first tortoise and I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with all the information ‘out there’ so I’m hoping someone can help please? Dumbledore is 3 years old and he came to me after...
