Re: Seaweed
Nina, I think Helen was a year above me, she came across as very reserved. I would imagine outside of her friend group, noone would know she sailed. Carsington water opened in 1991, so I'm sure this was a big boost to her endeavours. My mum remembers her from when she took our infamous tortoiseHELL ...

Re: Seaweed
Oh Nina, The thought of you and Lin debating my seaweed sources has had me in hysterics!!! I have a friend with two pathetically spoilt labradors and she's always at some random beach in all weathers. Now instead of a stick of rock, I'll request some seaweed. Did you know I went to school with Dame ...

Seaweed
Ladies,
Whilst sat shivering cloud-bathing I had a thought....I'm wondering if liquid seaweed fertiliser or just foraged seaweed could be used above the soil on tortoise plants??
Thankyou Jody

Re: Small-flowered-evening-primrose
Hi Nina, Thankyou for your swift reply, how interesting. :ugeek: Crikey it's my first year growing the evening primrose. I stupidly grew 3 plants and thank goodness they aren't quite at the same stage!! Most nights I'm lopping off 70 plus flowers and sharing them amongst the streets creeps . DI...

Small-flowered-evening-primrose
Hello lovely tortoise ladies, So whilst fighting a landslide of evening primrose flowers at dusk I noticed a slight difference between my plants. I'm now aware I have common evening primrose and small-flowered-evening-primrose. So could you confirm this smaller version "Oenothera cambrica"...

Re: Safe bug killer for feed plants
Hi Nina, Thankyou for your reply, there doesn't appear to be enough conclusive evidence for me to feel confident using it. Could I safely use a soap/water mixture using a soap like "castille" liquid soap, then spritz onto the offending pests?? Obviously any tortoise nibbles would be soaked...

Safe bug killer for feed plants
HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, It's Jody here from Wirksworth, Hooman slave to the tantrummy Jemima  As it's the time of year where my feed plants are about to erupt, I'm getting all cafuddled thinking what I can deter all nasties/funguses with. I've learnt the hard way and now plant the mallow/holyho...

Diamateous earth
Lovely ladies, can diamateous earth be used safely on substrate within an outside tortoise enclosure?? I'm wondering as i saw "camp Kenan" use it against ticks on their video this week. I've also got chickens Ginger, Adelaide and Brenda and use it in their coop. If you wouldn't recommend i...

Jemima and her palace
Hello Nina and Lynn, Jemima is now worm free, back on soil and daily her demanding and spoilt-child tendancies are increasing!!  Her outside pen is now complete and once I'm happy with the inside furniture placement, I'll post you the pics   . So i have a few questions regardi...

Re: Loss of appetite
Thankyou Lin and Nina, I am at a loss then where I'm going wrong with the 26g increase. She's only fed freshly foraged weeds (not even enough to fill her empty shell) and flowers and has 1% of her weight in Mazuri once a week. I get her out in our warm room in a pen for an hours activity a day. I fo...

Loss of appetite
Hey Nina and other lovely TTT people, Jemima......  SO she's in her last week of worming treatment. I tested her as she had become just a fraction more bone idle than normal. It was an extremely low 152 epg of pinworm, however as her 3rd eyelid was visible we decided to worm her. So she...

Re: Update on Jemima
Hi Nina, Yes good idea to post it after Easter. I won't be putting her ladyship in until her worm counts clear anyhow. Oh wow the grass and your enclosure looks amazing. I am off to the builders merchants to source a rounded roof tile like yours in t...

Update on Jemima
Hi Nina, Just an update on Jemima. She is currently being wormed, and you said to put her out in the sun as long as the pen is on a new patch of grass per day. She is hating the paper in her table, but is eating well. Even though i was thorough before, I'm intensifying the weed washing as i want her...

Re: Worming advice
Hi Nina, It's actually the 7th April she's going for her 2nd dose. I didn't ask him what he'd wormed her with, i was too upset. That's lovely i will pop her on our lawn, it's big enough so she won't be on the same part on a seperate day. Yes any bath poos I would remove but she's kindly doing them p...

Worming advice
So as Jemima had been a little off it i decided to do a worm count. Jemimas always been very idol, her prior owner did tell me this. It showed 120 epg of pinworm. So i rung my exotic vet and he wanted to see her. As i told him occasionally her 3rd eyelid is noticeable and her faeces really smelt the...

Re: Outdoor enclosure
Thankyou Nina,
It's going to be south facing, i believe this is advised?
Oh bless Dolly, how clever...but naughty!!
All your input is jotted down and i will make sure to check the enclosure for ragwort!
I love the ragwort facts, always enjoy stories relating to plants.
Thankyou

Re: Outdoor enclosure
Thankyou Nina, how daft of me, of course the pond liner will contradict my drainage plans!! All your suggestions are taken on board and are gratefully received. 2 questions though, 1. Could metal sheeting replace the wood or could this conduct too much heat?? 2. Now the pond liner isn't needed, is t...

Re: Outdoor enclosure
Hey Nina, YES, pond liner will counteract all my drainage plans....how silly of me!! I will mention the tall log roll to my builder......BUT would some type of metal sheeting work instead or would it conduct heat too much?? Also is there anything else now the pond liners a NO-GO, aside the weed memb...

Outdoor enclosure
Hey lovely people, I spoke to Nina recently about how i am having a outdoor enclosure built for the summer. It's for my beloved Horsfield Jemima, and my builder is constructing it by digging wood panels deep into the ground and using a wood frame for a lid. I just need a little reassurance AGAIN abo...

Jemimas summer-house
Hello ladies, It's Jody from Wirksworth (Jemimas hooman slave). I hope you are all well, and your shell - babies are fab. I'm not inquiring about Jemimas death stare or her overall ungrateful attitude, but her summer enclosure. So in the next month I'm getting the builder in to build her a walled en...

Greetings, This is Jody from Wirksworth, who has Jemima from Uzbekistan  . My last post was regarding Jemima imitating a zombie  . I'm not going to say she's now eating fantastically and getting up in the morning for fear of her lapsing into said character  . I wanted to thank ...
