Re: Small nasal bubble! *update in comments*
I put Timmie in warm water under his lamp. He hates bathes but this way he loves it. The water stays nice and warm.

Re: Noises
Hi Nina, I hope you and your familie are well too and stay safe. Do you remember when I first had him, the first week he was in a plexiglas enclosure and was able to see his own image in it? Well I changed that ofcourse, but that's when he first started doing it, he really saw 'intruders' ofcourse a...

Re: Noises
Hi, I have a 6 year old horsfield named Timmie. He's becomming a man now, hormones, being very territorial etc. It's amusing to watch. It started in the summer. Timmie makes squeeking noises when he's patrolling his enclosure and checking for intruders☺️ It stops after that and he'll do it again aft...

Re: Heat lamp advice
Hi, I have both here, flood and spot. Flood is much better, it gives a nice wide spread warmth that fades out. Spots give a very strong heat in a small area if that makes sense, don't know how to explain, too much in a small spot. I'll keep them for when a lamp blows or something, don't like them at...

Re: Looking to become a tortoise owner
Hi, I agree with Lin! I've used both, started with mvb(combined) and now I have 24 inch uvb arcadia 12% tube and a separate 75 watt flood bulb for basking. The mvb was super expensive (40€) and the thing quit on me after 3 months. What also seems to happen is that the light still works but the uvb s...

Re: Liner for table??
Hi, I used vinyl in one piece for this. Tiles will leak in the end I think. I had a piece of left over vinyl from a previous home. I brought it because I thought it could be handy and it was. I cut in the corners, to make a corner and I taped everything with very strong aquarium/glass tape. Totally ...

Re: Looking to become a tortoise owner
Hi Nic, My five year old Horsfield Timmie was a rescue tortoise. He's had a really bad life and the care and enclosure lacked everything you could imagine. I absolutely love him to bits, he's a great little dude. He's very friendly, he's interested, he eats out of my hand and he's not afraid of me a...

Re: My tortoise escaped
Hi Lucre, I follow this thread and every time I take a look, I hope you've found him! I'm sorry😔 I want to tell you a story I've just read on another forum. A woman in Colorado lost her tortoise in September last year in her gardenbed. She dug up her whole yard. Well he popped up at the neighbors ho...

Re: Hermanns and fruit
Hi,
No they don't need fruit and I wouldn't give it to them. It messes with their gut flora and it's not a part of their natural diet. They might like it, but just like with kids and candy, doesn't mean you should give it.

Re: Pimped up balcony enlosure
Thanks Lin and Nina, I'm also happy with it! The rug is a piece of the old balcony rug I had. I have a new one on the other side. It lets water through. He walks on it and sometimes lays under the ramp on it behind the campanula. Pee stays on top for a bit and then seeps through. Water goes through ...

Pimped up balcony enlosure
Hi :D I've pimped up my balcony enclosure to make it more useful in different weather types. I live on coast in the Netherlands and our weather varies so much, 1 day it's 30 celsius and the next day 18. There can be a difference of 10 to 15 degrees celsius in 24 hours. I've extended the greenhouse, ...

Re: Behavior change
I'm glad you don't know what to change cause I wouldn't know either :) The slate does become warm, but not too hot. He likes it and what he does if he wants a little less heat takes the outer slate or lies partially on slate. But Timmie is a lucky guy today because the weather turned out much better...

Re: Behavior change
Hi Nina,
His table is 2,5 ft by 6,7 ft. I have changed his table layout a few days ago. It helped a bit, but he's still dissapointed. I'm glad better weather is coming again.
He has 4 logs 3 bendy bridges, 3 plants, 1 tunnel and 1 hide, 1 rock, slate under his lamp, a bath.

Behavior change
Hello :) Since I made Timmies outdoor enclosure, he has been able to use it everyday. So for a good 4 weeks now. He went out from 11 till 5 pm. The weather has been great until a week ago. It became cold and rained alot, which was well needed tbh. Since he's not going outside Timmie does not get up ...

Re: Spur thigh has kink in tail?
Hi Nina,
Thank you for the reply, a bit strange the vet didn't come up with this and suggested euthanasia or an operation, that's quite horrible tbh!
Do you think he's a male or female?
I'm glad everything will work out and I wish them all the best

Re: Spur thigh has kink in tail?
I'm sorry to barge in, but I've been looking at the pictures and had a thought. The shell is a bit deformed and because of that, the edge of the shell above the tail is severely curled inward. A tail moves alot, for peeing, pooping and sometimes goes up a bit too. I think it touches/pushes against t...

Re: Balcony enclosure almost done
Hi Nina, Thank you so much, it was alot of fun to do and to think about the layout etc! Today he was out from 11.30 till 15.30, he explored everything and walked and climbed alot, so much fun to look at! He can also walk and hide under the bridges on both sides and he really liked that. I made them ...
