Chinese Forget-Me-Not (Chinese Forget Me Not, Chinese Hound's Tongue)

 Do not Feed
  • Common Name: Chinese Forget-Me-Not (Chinese Forget Me Not, Chinese Hound's Tongue)
  • Latin Name: Cynoglossum amabile
  • Family Name: Boraginaceae

Although it resembles its namesake (the familiar garden Forget-Me-Not), the Cynoglossum is not edible, as it contains amabiline, a pyrrolizidine alkaloid that can cause liver damage if eaten in quantity.

The Chinese Forget-Me-Not can be differentiated from the common Forget-Me-Not by the absence of the yellow centre in the eye of the flower.

Do not confuse with Forget-Me-Not (Mysotis), which is from the same family and is edible, or with the False Forget-Me-Not (Brunnera) which is a different plant and is not edible.

Although this plant is grown in the garden in the UK it does grow wild elsewhere in the world.
