Cape Honeysuckle
Do not Feed
- Common Name: Cape Honeysuckle
- Latin Name: Tecoma capensis
- Family Name: Bignoniaceae
The Cape Honeysuckle is not related to the common Honeysuckle (Lonicera) of gardens, and is an evergreen shrub with scrambling stems and clusters of bright orange tubular flowers. Although this plant is not considered toxic, it is high in tannins and saponins and so we would not advise feeding it to a tortoise.
Do not confuse with Its close relative, Yellow Bells (Tecoma stans) which produces pollen that is toxic and should never be fed to tortoises. Also do not confuse with other plants called Honeysuckle.
