Gardenia (Cape Jasmine)

 Do not Feed
  • Common Name: Gardenia (Cape Jasmine)
  • Latin Name: Gardenia spp., esp. Gardenia jasminoides
  • Family Name: Rubiaceae
We cannot find any research on the inclusion of Gardenia in the tortoise diet, and some species are said to be toxic to cats, dogs and horses.  Therefore, until further research is available, we recommend that you do not feed the leaves and flowers of Gardenia to tortoises, although if your tortoise does have the occasional nibble it should not come to any harm.

Gardenia flowers are most often white, but occasionally have a pale pink hue.

Sometimes grown as a house plant in the UK.
