Apricot (Fruit)

 Feed Sparingly
  • Common Name: Apricot (Fruit)
  • Latin Name: Prunus armeniaca
  • Family Name: Rosaceae
Not all species of tortoises and turtles are fruit eaters, so only offer this fruit as a small part of the diet once you have checked that your tortoise or turtle is a fruit eater.  Non-fruit-eating species are not equipped to deal with the sugars present in this fruit and can suffer intestinal problems if they eat it.  Cyanogenic glycosides (found in most stone fruit, seeds, bark, and leaves) are present in high concentration in Apricot stones, and they should therefore be avoided.

This advice is the same for the Flowering Apricot (Prunus armeniaca mumei), which can also produce fruit.
