This plant is non-toxic (but the berries should be avoided as there are some reports of them being toxic to some mammals) and would do well in providing a shady area for the tortoise enclosure.

N.B.  Do not confuse with Castor Oil Plant (Ricinus communis), which is highly TOXIC and should be avoided.
