Formerly placed in the Verbenaceae family, there is little research available on the possible toxicity of Caryopteris, and so until we have definite proof that it is safe, it is probably best to avoid it (but not to panic if your tortoise nibbles some).
Although most Caroypteris have blue flowers, there are varieties with lilac or purple flowers.
