As with all Medics they are a legume which fixes nitrogen (although less so than others in the clover family) and are high in protein so moderation is the key. To identify Black Medic with other similar looking plants, note that the centre leaflet is slightly longer, and is on a longer stalk than the side leaves. Also each leaf has a distinctive point at the end.
