Himalayan Balsam (Policeman's Helmet, Poor Man's Orchid)
Do not Feed
- Common Name: Himalayan Balsam (Policeman's Helmet, Poor Man's Orchid)
- Latin Name: Impatiens glandulifera
- Family Name: Balsaminaceae
A few sources say that ingestion of large quantities of this plant can be dangerous because of the high mineral content (and it is suggested that the minerals they are referring to are calcium oxalates, which can cause kidney stones).
Although most often found growing in moist soil near streams and rivers, Himalayan Balsam also grows in meadows and on the edges of forests.
