Wood Betony (Betony, Purple Betony, Bishops Wort, Lousewort)

• Common Name: Wood Betony (Betony, Purple Betony, Bishops Wort, Lousewort)
• Latin Name: Betonica officinalis; Stachys Betonica, Syn, Stachys officinalis
• Family Name: Lamiaceae/Labiatae

Wood Betony grows to around 60 cm. and flowers during the height of summer.  Although it is not toxic, it is high in tannins and various alkaloids and is likely to be unpalatable to tortoises. 

Do not confuse with the other plant with the common name of Wood Betony (Pedicularis canadensis) as that is a different plant from a different family.
