Family Name: Amaranthaceae (formerly Chenopodiaceae)
All plants from the Chenopodiaceae family contain oxalic acid which binds with much-needed calcium, and prevents the tortoise utilising that calcium to make bone and shell. It also contains saponins and hydrogen cyanide so best avoided. See also Fat-hen, and Orache.
