Weed ID please

Use this forum for identification of plants and flowers found in the UK. To allow us to help provide accurate identification we need clear pictures of the whole plant, where it is growing and close up pictures of flowers, buds or seed heads if any available. It would also be useful to see pictures showing the leaf attached to the stem.

Hi Jo.
Sorry I have taken so long to get back to you.

This looks like it is one of the Lamiaceae family of plants but the trouble is there are so many its hard to tell which one until there are some flower buds to go by. Can you have a try of brushing a leaf between your thumb and finger to see what the arona is that comes from it.

Have a close loook for buds and if and when you see some can you update with another photo.

Is there a possibility of it being Melissa officinalis? Does the plant have a square or round stem?

Hi Pete,

If it's Melissa officinalis (Lemon Balm) then if you crush one of the leaves hard between your fingers it should be mildly lemon or mint scented. Have a go and let us know what you think.

Nina yes ma'am I am very familiar with it as I have some at my home. I'm guessing you meant for Joe or lin? I had mentioned the plant as it looked familiar. :D

Oops, thanks, Pete. -- you're right -- I did mean to address that message to Jo. We haven't heard from her for a bit, and I wonder if she knows that when you are writing a message on the forum that under the box you are writing in you can tick a little box that says 'notify me when a reply is posted' and you will receive an email message each time someone posts something in your thread.
