Should he be eating this?

Use this forum for identification of plants and flowers found in the UK. To allow us to help provide accurate identification we need clear pictures of the whole plant, where it is growing and close up pictures of flowers, buds or seed heads if any available. It would also be useful to see pictures showing the leaf attached to the stem.

Hi Steve,

Ha, ha -- not so great to ask if a tortoise should be eating something after they've eaten it :D , but in this case you've lucked out and it should be fine. It's either Campanula (the low growing variety that can grow out of walls), or Dog Violet. Both are edible, and if you can send us a close-up of one of the flowers then we can give you a definite ID. Here are the two entries for those plants:

and

The colour of the flowers and the shape of the leaves can look similar, but the shape of the flowers is very different, which is why a close-up photo would be good.

Cheers,
Nina

Thanks Nina. I’m pretty sure it’s the first one the Campanula, and that’s good it’s safe for him to eat! I’ll put a picture up when it flowers.
