Oh dear, Bex -- how did we miss this?! I'm so sorry. I've only just discovered this post, and I should have had a notice sent to me when you posted it. I'll bet it's grown, flowered, and died by now, but I think it is probably one of the Hawkbits, and here is our entry for it
https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/pla ... vBVupch2M8 The leaves can vary from very narrow to wider, but it can usually be distinguished from Dandelions and Hawksbeards because the Hawkbit has hairy leaves and the other two are relatively hairless.

I hope that helps and sorry that it's late.

Hi Nina, no worries and thank you! I wondered if it was a member of the hawk family! Gonna go and look 2day to see if it's flowered, will add a pic if it has! We have lots of hawksbit along the main road, they seem to appear overnight!

I'm loving all the choice around this time of year and finding new things hidden in the undergrowth...haha I think I'm tortoise mad

I know, it's great, isn't it -- things just seem to pop up overnight. All that lovely tortoise food just waiting to be devoured!

Just had a walk and found the plant again...it's now 5ft tall and still hasn't flowered but def a Hawk! The tortoises won't eat the leaves but my Guinea pig does!

I've had this come up, I promise I've searched the database but can't see it, any ideas?

Hi Bex,

I posted this just now and it has turned up in the wrong place. The first weed you asked about, with the little yellow flower, is Wood Avens, and you can feed it sparingly (so not much). Here is our entry for it:

The second weed (growing next to a car), I know what it is but my mind has gone blank. Hopefully Lin will come in with an ID.
