I.D help please

Use this forum for identification of plants and flowers found in the UK. To allow us to help provide accurate identification we need clear pictures of the whole plant, where it is growing and close up pictures of flowers, buds or seed heads if any available. It would also be useful to see pictures showing the leaf attached to the stem.

Post by T123 » 08 May 2020, 21:53

Is someone able to tell me what this is and whether it’s safe for horsfields? It’s growing on the grass. Thanks in advance!

Hi T123. Thanks for contacting us and welcome to the website.

Do you think you could take a photo of just one of the leaves and stalks on a lighter background. There are a number of plants that look the same at this stage of growth, but we need a clear leaf photo to get the id.
Hope you dont mind.

If you don’t mind, I’m also not sure about this one? It grows just a few metres away in patches too.

Hi Thomas.
After all that can we just say the little plant in your lawn is one of the legumes (pea family) and often high in protien. So until we can see a flower (and please do keep a little growing to send in a photo later on) we would advise not to feed but if your tortoise nibbled a little it would not do any harm.

The other plant is Sorrel (Sheeps Sorrel) and it is a no feed.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi Thomas,

Just to add a bit to what Lin said, here is our entry for Sorrel, so you can see why we don't recommend feeding it.

Hi Lin and Nina,

Thank you very much for getting back to me so quickly and for your help. I will be sure to send a photo when it has flowered.

Thanks again,

Thomas
