Hi -

Lived in my house for 10 years and still trying to ID this scrub / plant.
If anybody can take a look at the photos and provide any suggestions. Thanks Marcus.

Hi Marcus,

It looks to me a bit like a Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia 'frisia'), but I'm not quite sure as I can't quite see the way the leaves come off the branch or the leaf stalk. in the Robinia you get 10 - 5 leaves, opposite each other on a long leaf stalk, and I can't see if yours are like that. Here is what I mean: https://www.burncoose.co.uk/site/plants.cfm?pl_id=3720 And here is our entry for the plant in our database:
https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/pla ... QaQ5I97m9s . What do you think? If your leaves aren't in that arrangement let us know and we'll look further, as there are other trees with golden leaves like that.

Hi again,
Lin and I have just conferred and we are sure that it isn't a Black Locust, but is in fact a Smoke Tree (Cotinus coggygria) the gold variety, and here is a photo of the leaves, which are much more like yours: https://www.waitrosegarden.com/plants/_ ... lsrc=aw.ds
Actually we have written an entry for this, but it hasn't gone live yet, and we don't have any photos of the gold-leaved variety. Could you possibly send us your two photos showing the leaves (the full tree and the close-up), in full resolution (not reduced in size), and we will be happy to include your photos in the entry and we will credit you with having copyright in the photos. If you are happy to do this, please send them to contact@thetortoisetable.org.uk and give us your full name so that we can print it on the photo. Thanks very much!
