Weed identification

Use this forum for identification of plants and flowers found in the UK. To allow us to help provide accurate identification we need clear pictures of the whole plant, where it is growing and close up pictures of flowers, buds or seed heads if any available. It would also be useful to see pictures showing the leaf attached to the stem.

Weed identification

Post by Tallulah_Tort » 03 Sep 2017, 17:29

This has sprung up in my garden and I'm curious as to whether it's safe to feed?
Kind regards,
Lisa :)

Hi, and thanks for the good photos. This looks like one of the Ragworts to me -- probably Senecio jacobaea (Common Ragwort) -- and it is highly toxic, so I would remove it. There are a few other plants that look similar, but I wouldn't risk it. Do you know if it has had flowers yet (that would clinch the ID)?
Here's our entry for Ragwort: http://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/plan ... axum9GQyM8
