Nail Care

Hello,
I’m new to the forum so apologies if this question has been answered on another thread. I’ve recently noticed my tortoises nails are getting a little long. He has rocks and clay pots in his enclosure which he normally scratches to keeps his nails trim, but they seems to be getting a little long at the moment. Should I look to clip them or leave him? Thanks.

Hi and a warm welcome to our forum.
It would be great to see a photo of the tortoise and especially the nail area before we comment. Just to satisfy ourselves we are giving out the correct advise.
So if you could upload one I would be greatful and we will get back as soon as possible.

Hi Lin,
Thank you for your reply. A photo is easier said than done isn’t it?! Lol! Hopefully the attached is ok. The one nearest to him is the longer of the bunch.
Thank Laura

They seem fine to me Laura. As you say you have rocks and different textures for him to clamber over they will be worn down and when he goes outside for summer that also helps a lot.

Thanks for the reassurance Lin. I was just a bit worried as they are longer than normal. Good to know they are ok. Thanks again!
