Hibernating

Post by Dot » 08 Sep 2019, 17:22

Hello there. I am after some advice re hibernating. If I do it,this will be the first year and it seems a bit early to be doing it. The reason I am asking now is my two tortoises have not eaten all week and are just staying in their hide. I don't know whether to disturb them with bathing and would be grateful for some expert advice please. :|

You are right Dot, it is a little early for hibernation so I would do exactly what you are thinking. Get them up, bathe them, make sure the room and area of the tortoises are very bright to imitate mid summer and double check the basking area is around 30*C and a cooler area of 18*C. This is to imitate summer conditions and trick them into believing its summer. You can get them up a few times a day if they keep hiding in the bedding area.
How old are they Dot and how long have you had them.

Hi Lin,thank you for your advice. We have had them 6 years and I believe they are 9 years old. One male and one female. I will do as you have suggested and see how it goes. ;)
