Re: ID

Thats what is making me think Speedwell but the flower looks to dark for the one I am thinking of. Does it look like this one. The flowers really are tiny. Just look at the leaves at the top by the flower as the ones lover down are different. Lin [attachment=0]Veronica arvensis_Wall speedwell_lr_46 ...

Re: ID

Hi Amie. I am wondering if this could be one of the many Speedwells but the photo is a bit blury. As the flowers are on their way to open I think it would be best if you send in another photo in a few days just so we can be sure but taken a little further away and if possible in situ.

Re: Hector falls asleep with his neck extended. Normal?

Hi Hectors family.
It is as they say and Hector is feeling very relaxed and happy in the enviroment you are offering to him. It takes a while to gain our trust but this is one way they do show it.
All perfectly normal.

UNAVAILABLE - Horsfield - Halifax, West Yorkshire

Walter is roughly 22 years old and unfortunately is looking for a new home due to her previous owners unable to look after her anymore. She’s a fantastic tortoise who loves to explore and enjoys a bath. Adores a fuss and has never been known to nibble fingers. She would adore a suitable home, one th...

Re: Advice about puffy and closed eyes

Afraid not Olivereastham. I have been reading that a lot of horsfields seem to be having this problem and I can only put it down to the cold snap we are experiencing right now or a slight tweek in heat or husbandry might be needed. Do you have your tortoise in very very slightly moist (not in the le...

Re: Very sleepy Hermanns

I love keepers like you Tim. Worth your weight in gold. The temps seem fine, are you taking them at the heigh of the tortoise shell under the heat and not on the wall alongside the lamp? Your infra red light...is it putting out any light for the night because if it is you would be better off with a ...

Re: Very sleepy Hermanns

IHiya from me too and welcome. Adding to Ninas advice, I am wondering if you are in the UK, because last May was very very hot with temps way up in the high 20's low 30's so the tortoise more than likely entered into estivation rather than hibernation. Estivation is a state of animal dormancy, simil...

Re: Enclosure advice

Hi Howard. I am still boweled over with your enclosure, however I do have to agree with Nina regarding the perspex top. Maybe you can remove the half that is not under the lights giving the covered top part the heatlamps and as long as they are controlled by thermostats I think that might be good an...

Re: What plants this?

It called Plectranthus verticillatus and sometimes comminly called Swedish ivy, Swedish begonia or whorled plectranthus. It is in the family Lamiaceae and is not toxic to cats, dogs or horses. We do have an entry for the Plecranthus spp meaning it will include all the plants in the Plecranthus genus...

Re: What plants this?

Hiya.
This is looking very much like Germander Speedwell but the flowers are not ringing true.
Can you take a photo of the close up of a flower, maybe in situ. Is the colour all white of could there be a dab of something else?.

REHOMED -- George - South Lanarkshire

Can you offer the handsome (or lonesome) George a forever home. He is around 9 years old, male Horsfield and his owner has found that due to work commitments he would be better in a home where more time could be devoted to his needs. He will eat a good mix of weeds and natural diet and it would also...

Re: Achillea's new, improved space

I think you have wnough pots and plants around the enclosure without thinking about planting through the membrane. If you plant, he will eat - I laways fine picking and feeding works better in keeping healthy tortoises because they cannot overeat if its not there in abundence. I cant wait to s...

No longer available -- Rehoming Horsfield - Hugo - Stockport, Cheshire.

HUGO IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. His carer has decided to give him his forever home. This is Hugo, his carer rescued two Horsfields a month ago to remove them from an unsavoury situation and worked on getting them to eat the correct diet and bringing their health up to scratch. As you can see Hugo has a...

Re: Achillea's new, improved space

Wow, Heather. Thats looking great. Have you thought about putting a small log roll standing up making a feature of it and breaking the line of sight and I used to use them flat on the ground to give another texture to walk over. You have so much space there to make Achillea's dreams come true. Well ...
