Re: Poorly Horsfield
Hi so sorry I didn't see your message Lin. Just on way back from vets now, they kept him overnight so they could put a tube into his oesophagus (not sure if spelling is correct) this morning. He looks like a mini incendiary device. Liquid food, milk thistle and antibiotics to administer via the tube...

Re: Poorly Horsfield
Hi just a quick update. He's not eaten a thing since my last post. It could be a protest at his coccidia treatment but last one was Wednesday and I d hoped he would have found his appetite again by now. Hoping to get him an appointment with the vet tomorrow. Fingers crossed although I m a bit worried.

Re: Poorly Horsfield
Thanks ladies I 'll give it a go again. It's almost as though he recognises the baby gem and thus eats it but I 'll try cutting things up into a nice salad for him and see what happens. He has lost weight, vet has been weighing him too but didnt seem too concerned and I wondered if some of the weigh...

Poorly Horsfield
Hi ladies I'm after a bit of advice. Tort has been on a course of anti biotics after blood tests showed he had an infection, then he was on treatment for pinworm which has cleared but now he's on treatment for coccidia (thinks that's correct spelling) and also due to his twisted spine he's also on l...

Re: Outdoor enclosure free -- collect from Rickmansworth
Hi Nina The link you sent me to the Wiltshire Tortoise Group and the article about Lumisol......well it seems the British Chelonia Group sells Lumisol by the metre and even with postage its much more cost effective than buying direct from a supplier so I'm going to order some once I know how much I ...

Thanks for the link Nina i'll have a look. Interested to hear about how long Joe s torts stay outdoors for so it definitely sounds like a good investment.

Re: Outdoor enclosure free -- collect from Rickmansworth
Hi Nina Thanks for the link to the article it made interesting reading and ideas for our new enclosure. I discounted the ides of using lumisol previously because of the cost but seeing the difference between artificial lights and sunlight I'm thinking again. I spoke with lumisol and they said they s...

Re: Substrate query
That looks great thanks Nina, he had a roof slate balanced on bricks in his original one but kept lifting it on his back and moving it elsewhere but loved sleeping under it too. The curved roof tile looks perfect so will definitely include one of those. Will let you know once we start the build.

Re: Substrate query
Ha ha yes it was incredibly hot and with no breeze either, I too would have welcomed some spray misting He is using a temporary outdoor enclosure at present, we had to dismantle his original one prior to moving but hopefully the new outdoor enclosure project will begin soon and he'll get to use it b...

Re: Substrate query
Hello Nina yes it's Tortollini. How nice of you to remember. He's had a day in the sunshine, it's so warm today. He seems to have enjoyed being spray-misted from a water spray bottle I use on his substrate.

Re: Substrate query
Hi there my reply seems to have disappeared!!. Thanks for the advice again.
Tort is outside at the moment in the sun, seems quite happy.
I'll try digging some substrate into the borders and keep the rest as we'll be having some more borders added soon, like you say, why waste a natural fertiliser.

Substrate query
Hi TTT ladies, I have a question, my little tort has been poorly, on anti biotics and now being treated for a high worm load. He's in a temporary (newspaper lined) enclosure until he's had his next worm treatment in 14 days (at a vets from your list) so I'm in the process of cleaning out his table, ...

Hi, gave Tort a ramble around the garden yesterday, he doesn't usually eat random stuff but he took a bite of this and I can't identify it on the database.

Re: More plant identifications plesse
Dear Nina, what would we do without your advice! Thank you so much, I will carefully remove and dispose of the ragwort. I 've seen it growing wild and recognise it when it has flowers on but would not have realised they were the same plant. Good news on the dead-nettle, i'll encourage that one. Best...

Re: Komodo tortoise pellets
Hi Nina, well you know I had not actually noticed the lack of mention of dandelion in the ingredients. It's really annoying isn't it that manufacturers are allowed to give false information and claim foods to be everything your tortoise needs. Yes he does very much like these pellets so unfortunatel...

Thanks

Komodo tortoise pellets
Hi Nina/Lin I hope you are well. I was given some Komodo Tortoise Diet Dandelion pellets and gave my little Horsfield a few soaked in water. He loved them. His normal diet is fresh weeds but I struggle to get his calcium supplements down him so have found the pellets useful for this. Would he be ok ...
