It’s so cool, it tells me when she moves on an app on my phone....it’s been going off all afternoon lol  I spent a bit more and got a Ring Outside Wireless Camera approx £90 but it so easy to set up, if anyone gets one it takes approx 9 hours to charge the batte...

Re: Overnight heat

I only need it to last a cpl years, when Nan passes we have to move and hopefully if I can get a garden I’ll do it all again!
I went for larger ground space rather than height, I can just sit in there to see to the electrics etc! It’s good being short sometimes

Re: Overnight heat

Hi guys, Thanks Lin, I’ve made it as big as I cud afford! It’s not finished but introduced Speedy to it y/day and she seemed happy! She kept going in and out, sitting under each heat source, munching the graze on etc! I did get a tubular heater but it’s way to big! So ordered a slimmer one, just wai...

Overnight heat

Hi guys, Hope all are well, I’ve inherited a bit of money and decided to spend it on Speedy's all weather house! I have a builder starting today and really excited! I have gone for roughly 1.5 metres by 1 metre, it will be fully insulated all round incl floor and I’ll have an electric box outside so...

Re: Heat/Light set-up

Ok so I’ve set up the heat lamp, I’m really pleased I found a dome with a wire grill, also still gonna use the wire shelf for double protection! :) I am only running it on an extension til I can find an electrician to do me an outdoor plug, but obviously will be home for a while due to current circu...

Re: Heat/Light set-up

Would this be enough for the inside or do I need a stronger/longer one?
Or just leave her to walk about and just nap inside?
I don’t wanna cause her any health probs by not giving her enough uvb!

Oh I’ve just noticed it’s not D3! Back to searching!

Re: Heat/Light set-up

No worries, no need to apologise Lin! I don’t know if I put for daytime use in my 1st message! It’s just that she was in there a lot during the day last summer so uvb was my main concern! Also I don’t really want to build a big area yet as we are only able to live here while Nan is around, once she’...

Re: Heat/Light set-up

Hi Lin, as much as I would love to give Speedy a big house I can’t afford a shed, I’m a single mum and live in Carer and money is very tight! I have ordered the same hutch/shed as b4, I hope the link works!! It’s on a previous topic ‘Speedys new enclosure’ https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/siteass...

Re: Heat/Light set-up

Actually if I have the door facing the sun, lucky I have south facing garden, would this be enough sunlight when she’s in the shed, I always have the door open during the day? Also if I have the plastic strips hanging, Will that stop the natural uv coming thru? x

Re: Heat/Light set-up

Ok I’ve had to buy another shed, like the last one as my brick layer seems to have disappeared and I’ve been waiting months! Doubt he’ll turn up now either cos we’re in lockdown. But I’m doing it differently as it ended in disaster last time :( Inside is 1 metre square, approx 1.5 m high....it has a...

Heat/Light set-up

Hi guys, It’s time to set up Speedy’s outside house and I’m obviously worried cos of what happened last year! I’m gonna put a wire grill across, a couple inches under the heat lamp, to prevent anything touching it etc... but I was wondering if these will be any good! It seems to deal with light and ...

Re: Tiny's new outside enclosure

OMG look at Dolly!! There amazing aren’t they  I have just revamped the same one, I was going to remove another half a foot of dirt down and not have the logs, but it was a pond that was cemented in so it will be a big job so I cheated! I’m gonna sit and watch her 2moro and see what she gets up...

Re: Tiny's new outside enclosure

I decided it’s too much hard work digging out the old pond so just put a small log fence around the edge!
Took a bit to saw the little doorway but got there in the end!!
Tiny took a bit of coaxing but once she was out she seemed quite happy especially when she found the Campanula :)

We had temp of 16 here today!! So as a treat Speedy had her bath outside...she spent quite a lot of time splashing and occasionally got out to eat

I can’t believe she’s almost as big as the bath already, only got it last summer...will have to search for bigger one!!

Re: Tiny's new outside enclosure

We had glorious sun for almost an hour and no breeze so while I was pottering in the garden I put her out. I had the plastic cover on so it was quite cosy in there! We’re North Kent and it’s sleeting now :o
